• The Culper Ring, 1778

    August 22, 1776.

New Yorkers heard the cannon blasts of the Battle of Long Island.

Five days later, an expeditionary force of over thirty-two thousand British regulars, ten ships of line, twenty frigates, and one hundred and seventy transports defeated Washington’s troops at Kip’s Bay and invaded Manhattan Island.

Having been forced to abandon his position in New York City and flee across New Jersey, General George Washington, outgunned, outmanned and outnumbered, had to devise a new strategy to gain some sort of advantage over the British, in an effort to turn the tide of the war.

Their task being to send messages to General George Washington about the activities of the British in New York, members of the Culper Spy Ring are the most essential part of this new strategy. Delegates of this committee are expected to conduct covert operations in New York, Long Island and Connecticut, discover attacks before they occur, reveal traitors, and gather crucial intelligence, all while under the cover of absolute secrecy. Striving to gather and send information without causing suspicion, trying to expose British plans before the Revolution fails and endeavouring to prevent attacks that might harm the American Continental Army, Culper Ring will face decisions that will help found a new nation.
